OwnThePixel is one shared 2,560 × 1,440 canvas — 3.6 million pixels. Claim a pixel for $0.10 and it's yours for good: paint it, trade it, group it, or sell it. No subscriptions, no expiry, no resets.
Think of it as a tiny piece of digital real estate — except the “real estate” is a dot of colour on a single artwork painted by thousands of strangers. Every pixel you buy is permanently yours and stays on the canvas as long as the site exists. When the last pixel is claimed, the canvas becomes a one-of-a-kind mosaic that will never be erased or updated. It’ll just be.
Browsing is free and needs no account. To claim pixels, it’s three steps:
You can hold up to 1,000 reserved pixels at once, and the 5-minute hold keeps your spot while you choose. Cancel a reservation and there’s a 30-minute cool-down before you can reserve again (it keeps the canvas fair).
Single pixels are a flat $0.10 each. Want a whole block? Buy a plot — a rectangle of pixels at a bulk discount. The bigger the plot, the deeper the discount.

Placing a plot reserves the whole rectangle for 5 minutes; the discounted price is only charged when you hit Buy. Changed your mind? Cancel the pending plot from the toolbar.
The first fill of a fresh plot is free. After that each edit uses one of the plot’s 2 free edits; top up more for $1 per 10 edits when you run out.
You can have one pending plot in flight at once — confirm or cancel it before reserving another. Plot pixels stay together (they can’t be split into individual listings or groups).
Own it, recolour it. Bought a pixel from someone else? It keeps their colour until you change it.
Every pixel you own comes with two free colour changes. Repainting to the same colour is free and doesn’t count.

Select your pixels, hit Group, give it a name. Your first group is free; extra groups are $1 each. Renaming is free once, then $0.50.

Disband a group from the canvas and its pixels become individual again, free to sell or regroup. Up to 5,000 pixels can live in one group.
Free pixels are an in-game currency — 1 free pixel claims 1 real pixel, no money needed. Earn them three ways. You can hold up to 1,000, so spend them as you go.
100 lucky pixels are hidden across the canvas. A soft glow marks roughly where each one hides — buy or claim the exact spot to win it. Rewards run from 20 up to 100 free pixels. Each is a one-time find.

The 1,000 cap matters. Free pixels are capped at 1,000 — anything earned over the cap is lost, not stored. So spend them (claim pixels!) as you approach the cap. It also means the biggest 2,500-pixel plot is money-only — you can’t claim it for free.
Every account has a USD balance. Top it up, spend it, and watch the money flow in when you sell.
